The Lord Botetourt volleyball team remained undefeated with a three-set win over the host Bruins in Blacksburg last week. The Cavaliers won 25-23, 25-13 and 25-21.

Blacksburg was expected to be a tough match for the two-time defending state champion Cavaliers, but it never materialized. After a close first set Botetourt dominated the second, then put the Class 4 Bruins away in the third.

Miette Veldman led Botetourt with 16 kills, five digs, three blocks and a couple aces. Taylor Robertson added nine kills and three blocks and Ryanna Clark had eight kills and four blocks for LB. Jordyn Kepler had 34 assists and five digs while Kenleigh Gunter had 14 digs and three aces.

With the win LB improved to 4-0 overall. The Cavaliers were scheduled to host James River in the second of two intra-county matches on Tuesday. LB is then off until next Monday, September 16, when Blacksburg returns the trip to Daleville.

James River picked up a non-district win over Covington last week, defeating the Cougars in five sets in Covington. The first three sets were all two point decisions at 25-23, with River winning the first and third sets and Covington the second. The Cougars then tied the match with a 25-18 win in the fourth, but River prevailed in the deciding set to 15, 15-11.

Morgan Marshall had 17 kills to lead the Knights while Sage Beddingfield had 15 and Lily Wilson had five aces. The win improved River’s record to 2-5 and the Knights will have two home games next week, on Monday against Parry McCluer and on Tuesday against Glenvar.
