James River played host to Lord Botetourt in the only intra-county volleyball game of the season last week and the visiting Cavaliers came out on top. LB won in three sets, 25-13, 26-24 and 25-22.

Miette Veldman had a huge night for LB. She had 25 kills out of 76 points won by LB while adding eight digs, two blocks and two aces. Lara Veldman had six kills and 10 digs to go with two blocks.

Jordyn Kepler had 31 assists for Lord Botetourt as the Cavaliers remained undefeated. Kenleigh Gunter had 15 digs and three aces and Alexis Ellis had seven digs.

For James River, Linsey Bailey led the team with 13 kills. Bailey Marshall had eight kills and Lillian Clevenger had 12 assists.

On Thursday the Knights hosted Three Rivers District rival Glenvar and won in three sets, 25-16, 25-17 and 25-22. Marshall had 17 kills and Bailey had nine.

On Monday the Knights beat Carroll County in five sets, 25-8, 23-25, 25-11, 21-25 and 15-7. Bailey had 35 kills to lead the Knights and Marshall had 15. Clevenger had 30 assists.

Botetourt was at Fleming Monday and the Cavaliers had little trouble improving to 8-0. They shut out the Colonels, 25-0, in the first set and won the next two, 25-6 and 25-9. Brooklyn Shelton had six kills and Scottie Cook and Janna Alam had five each.

Both teams were back in action Tuesday, but results were too late for publication. LB was at Blacksburg and River played host to Giles. On Thursday LB hosted William Byrd for “Dig Pink” night and James River is at Alleghany.
