The Lord Botetourt boys and girls swept the Blue Ridge District swim meet at the Salem YMCA last Friday evening.

“What an amazing meet we had Friday night,” said LB coach Ashley Safrit. “This is the first time in LB swim team history that the men and women have both won district at the same time.”

The women scored 206 points to 116 for second place William Byrd. Northside had 65.5 and Staunton River had 35.5.

In the men’s competition the Cavaliers had 170 points to 72 for second place Byrd. Staunton River had 60, Northside had 58 and William Fleming had 13 points.

LB’s Olivia Bray was voted female District Swimmer of the Year, making the state cut in the 100 freestyle. The girls 200 free relay team of Miranda Kirtley, Brooke Heptinstall, Katelyn Arney, and Bray also made the state cut and a new school record of 1:45.89.

LB placed first in 15 of 22 events and had 15 personal bests. Included were the following: Charlie Dooley and Michael Pigeon in the 200 Free; Ryan Spangler and Cooper Dehr in the 200 IM; Hannah Martin in the 200 IM; Hattie Buttler and Sydney Rakes in the 100 Fly; Charlie Dooley in the 100 Free; Autumn Bonhotel and Maureen Hickey in the 100 Free; Madelynn Sprouse and Greysan Palmer in the 500 Free; Katie Adkins in the 100 Back; Alex Harris in the 100 Breast and Hattie Buttler in the 100 Breast

“I am so overwhelmingly proud of the hard work and dedication that the team has had this season,” said Safrit. “As a coach, I could not be more excited for their accomplishments.”

The regional meet is next at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center next Tuesday, Feb. 6.
