Back-to-school sale at Cloverdale Thrift Store

The Cloverdale Church of the Brethren Thrift Store is having a back-to-school sale. All children’s clothes and shoes are half off. Shorts and capris are 50 cents.

 

Springwood Food Pantry open August 19

The Springwood Baptist Food Pantry will be open on Saturday, August 19 from 9-10:30 a.m. The pantry is located at 88 Copps Hill Road, Buchanan. This pantry is a drive-through pantry, so clients may remain in their cars and volunteers will load the food for them.

The pantry is open each month on the third Saturday from 9-10:30 a.m. It is a partner with Feeding America Southwest Virginia and anyone in need of food is invited.

 

Trinity UMC Ice Cream Sundae Family Movie Night

Trinity United Methodist Church is hosting an Ice Cream Sundae Family Movie Night in the fellowship hall on Friday, August 25. The movie will begin around 6:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6.  Bring your favorite non-alcoholic beverage to enjoy with the free popcorn. Trinity UMC is located at 19637 Main Street, Buchanan.

The church invites everyone to attend for ice cream and the movie, and on Sunday morning at 10:30 for worship.

 

PleasantDale to celebrate 107th anniversary

PleasantDale Church of the Brethren will celebrate the church’s107th anniversary on Sunday, September 10.
Austin Myers and Avery Saunders will being playing music guests arrive, so come early for this. Austin and Avery will also play a couple of hymns during the worship service from 11-11:45 a.m.
Professional bluegrass players Heather and Tony Mabe will be playing from 11:45 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. A potluck dinner will immediately follow.

All are invited.

 

Pleasant Hill Baptist upcoming activities

The Women on Mission will meet Thursday, August 17 at 10:30 a.m. The guest speaker will be Lisa Miles from Orchard Hills Achievement Center.

Pleasant Hill Baptist Church is raffling off a quilt to raise money for the Playground Fund. The tickets are 1 for $5 or 5 for $20. Tickets may be purchased by calling the church line at 540-992-5556 or by emailing phbcweb@gmail.com.

Pleasant Hill Baptist Church members will be walking in the Walk to Defeat ALS on September 16 at Green Hill Park in Salem. To join the team, call the church line at 540-992-5556 or email phbcweb@gmail.com.

The PHBC Quilters Group meets every Wednesday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. If you are interested in learning this skill or would like to participate, call the church line at 540-992-5556 or email phbcweb@gmail.com.

Pleasant Hill Baptist will have revival services on Sunday, September 17 through Wednesday, September 20. Dr. Tom Stocks will be leading the revival each night at 6 p.m. There will be special music and fellowship nightly.

 

GriefShare beginning at Colonial Baptist

Colonial Baptist Church in Blue Ridge is offering GriefShare, a help and encouragement ministry to those who have experienced the death of a spouse, child, family member or friend. Each 90-minute session includes a video seminar, group discussion, and personal workbook. The fall GriefShare Support Group meets weekly from Thursday, August 10, through Thursday, October 26, at 6:30 p.m. Colonial Baptist Church is located at 221 Hillcrest Street in Blue Ridge. Villa Heights to celebrate 100th anniversary

Villa Heights Baptist Church will celebrate the 100th anniversary as a church with a special service followed by lunch on Sunday, August 27, at 10:30 a.m. Previous church members and friends are invited to attend. Trips with the Joyful Journey Travelers

The Joyful Journey Travelers of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Daleville invite interested persons to join them for two daytrips.

  • The Billy Graham Museum and Library, September 19. Cost is $100 per person. The bus leaves from St. Mark’s at 7 a.m., then make a pick-up for people in Rocky Mount. Travelers will spend the day at the museum and library; lunch on your own in the cafe there. The bus will stop for dinner, on your own, on the way home. Suggested tip for the driver is $3 per person.

The bus will return to St. Mark’s by 8 pm. The registration form can be found on the church website, stmarksmethodist.com, or by calling Julia Greer at 540-330-7933. The deadline for registering and payment in full is September 1.

  • Wohlfhart Haus Christmas Show and Meal, Wytheville, November 15. Cost is $95.50 per person and includes the bus, show, and meal. A $3 tip for the driver is recommended. The bus will leave from St. Mark’s at 10 a.m. and return by 6:30 pm. to St. Mark’s. The bus will stop at the Lowe’s in Salem to pick up at 10:20 a.m. and drop off at 6 p.m. The registration form can be found on the church website at stmarksmethodist.com or by calling Julia Greer at 540-330-7933. The deadline is as soon as possible. The theatre says that seating for groups usually begins to fill up by the end of August. The bus will be chartered from Sunshine Tours.

The Joyful Journey Travelers is an outreach ministry of St. Mark’s UMC to provide safe and fun trips for senior citizens; however, any age is welcome.
