Spaghetti supper Saturday at Ebenezer UMC

Ebenezer United Methodist Church will have a spaghetti supper from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20.  Donations will be accepted. Ebenezer is located at 85 Nace Road, Troutville.

 

Springwood Food Pantry open Aug. 20

The Springwood Baptist Food Pantry will be open on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 9-10:30 a.m. The pantry is located at 88 Copps Hill Road, Buchanan. This pantry is a drive through pantry, so clients may remain in their cars and volunteers will load the food for them.

Clients are asked to remain in their cars and food orders will be delivered to them. Additionally, clients are asked to wear masks when volunteers approach the vehicle.

The pantry is open each month on the third Saturday from 9-10:30 a.m. It is a partner with Feeding America Southwest Virginia and anyone in need of food is invited.

 

Sale on clothing, shoes at Cloverdale Brethren Thrift Shop

The Cloverdale Church of the Brethren Thrift Shop is having a sale on women’s shirts, blouses, pants and dresses for 50 cents each. It also has a large selection of name-brand shoes for $1 a pair. Hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Donations are welcome.

 

Pico-Styne-Nofsinger Cemetery needs funds

Pico-Styne-Nofsinger Cemetery in Buchanan is in need of funds.

Donations are needed to have the cemetery mowed and maintenance done. This is a small cemetery and its caretakers hate to see it go back to an unkempt condition.

Send donations to Pico-Styne-Nofsinger Cemetery Fund, 515 James River Terrace, Buchanan, 24066.

 

GriefShare begins again at St. Mark’s UMC

GriefShare is a small support group offering hope and encouragement for those who have lost someone they love through death. It doesn’t matter how recent or how long ago your loss happened, this program offers help when traveling this difficult journey of grief.  The program consists of a workbook, video and small group discussion that offer compassion, confidentiality and sharing with others who understand.

St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Daleville will begin the fall cycle of classes on August 25. There are 13 weeks of classes to be held in person in the fellowship hall, with enough space to allow for Covid protocols of masks and distancing for participants as they are comfortable. There will be two sessions to choose from: 10-11:30 a.m., or 6:30-8 p.m. Open enrolment for any session allows for those who cannot begin on August. 25.

Consignment sale at Bonsack Baptist

Bonsack Baptist Preschool Consignment Sale is Saturday, September 10, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Bonsack Baptist Church CLC, 4845 Cloverdale Road, Roanoke. The sale will offer over 100,000 consignment items ranging from infant to teens, even for moms to be. Admission is free. For more information, go to

Experience HU – The Sound of Soul

Singing HU can bring comfort, peace and calm, a release of fears, and answers to your questions. You and your family are invited to a Sound of Soul event on Thursday, August 25, at 7 p.m. at the Raleigh Court Branch Library, 2112 Grandin Rd., SW, Roanoke.

Regardless of your beliefs or religion, you can sing HU to become happier and more secure in God’s love. HU is an ancient name for God that has been sung for thousands of years in many lands for spiritual unfoldment.

The program consists of a heart-opening spiritual quotation and a 15-20 minute HU chant (either aloud or silently) and quiet contemplation.  All are welcome.
