Andrew Chapel Ash Wednesday service tonight
Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church will observe the first day of the Lenten season with an Ash Wednesday service on Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. This service is open to the community and all are welcome. Andrew Chapel is located at 3936 Beaver Dam Road, just off Springwood Road in Springwood.
Eagle Rock Clothes Closet February dates
The Eagle Rock Community Clothes Closet at 14565 Church Street, Eagle Rock, will be open on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. It has clothing for men, women, and children, as well as shoes, household items and toys, all at no charge. Bags are provided and patrons are asked to honor the bag limit.
Clothing donations should be made in bags, using the donation box outside the church. For larger donations or to volunteer to help with this community-wide mission, contact Ray Sandifer at 540-525-0258.
Fincastle Clothes Closet open dates
Fincastle United Methodist’s Clothes Closet will be open on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., in the Family Life Center at 137 S. Church Street. Donations of gently worn, clean clothing and shoes also will be accepted. Call the church office at 540-473-3001 to arrange to bring donations during office hours, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday.
Celtic music in Fincastle Feb. 26
Fincastle Presbyterian Church invites the public to enjoy an evening of beautiful music on Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. The music will be provided by KINNFOLK, a local Celtic duo. There is no charge and all are welcome to this free event for the community. It will be at the church, 108 sBack Street in Fincastle.
Wednesday Lenten services and lunch
Fincastle United Methodist Church Family Life Center, 137 S. Church Street, is the site on Wednesdays in Lent for 20-minute services beginning at 12:05 p.m. with music and messages of faith and hope from area pastors.
A home-cooked lunch immediately follows each service at 12:30 p.m. The service and meal are designed to give attendees time to return home or to work within one hour. Take-out meals will be available. Parking is available on the street, at the Masonic Lodge, and at the Health Department on the side facing Church Street.
If Botetourt schools are closed for inclement weather, the service is canceled.
The schedule is:
- Feb. 25: Rev. Samuel Plymale, St. Mark’s UMC, Daleville; ham biscuits, potato salad, fruit, dessert
- March 4: Rev. Dr. David Dickerson, Fincastle Presbyterian Church; sub sandwiches, cole slaw, chips, dessert
- March 11: Pastors Tom & Naomi Powers, Daleville Church of the Brethren; chicken salad croissants, vegetable salad, chips, dessert
- March 18: Rev. Willis Logan, St. Mark’s Episcopal Fincastle; potato soup, vegetable-beef soup, grilled cheese sandwiches, Jello salads, dessert
- March 25: Rev. Fr. Xavier Banasula, Church of the Transfiguration, Fincastle; potato bar, chili, green salad, cornbread, dessert
Menus are subject to change. Donations will be accepted— any money received above the cost of the food will go to help fund the mission and ministries of Fincastle United Methodist Church.
Cedar Bluff holding Women’s Ministry Workshop
Cedar Bluff Baptist is hosting a Women’s Ministry Workshop on Sunday, March 1, with local author Robin Marshall. Registration is requested. The cost is $15 to cover the cost of the participant’s book, also used for the workshop, and bring Bibles. More information can be found on Facebook. Doors open at 1:30 p.m., the workshop is from 2-4:30 p.m.
