The Lord Botetourt and James River cross country teams are scheduled to run in a big meet this Saturday at the Jackson River Sports Complex in Covington. Alleghany High will be the host team for the “Alleghany Invitational.”

Both teams ran in separate meets last Saturday, as LB ran in the Clash with the Titans at Hidden Valley High School and James River ran in the Augusta Invitational, hosted by Wilson Memorial High School.

At Hidden Valley the host Titans won the boys team title among 16 teams while LB finished 10th. The Rockbridge girls won the 5,000 meter team title among 10 teams and LB was seventh.

“The team has been working hard and it showed in the results,” said Cavalier coach Elizabeth Wilson. “The team stayed close together and fought hard at the finish line.”

Rye Jackson and Tristan Marshall led the LB boys while Amelia Dietrich, Ella Johnston and Addison Purser led the girls team.

“We had many people medal on the high school and middle school side,” said Wilson.

At the Augusta Invitational the River girls were 10th and the boys were 11th as the Wilson Memorial girls and Waynesboro boys took team titles.

Tristian Capo-Lopez placed 36th with a time of 20:17 and Aiden Bartulis placed 49th with a time of 20:43 to lead the River boys. The girls team was led by Georgia Miller, who placed 25th with a time of 24:18, and Drew Whitson, who placed 27th with a time of 24:21.

“This was a very challenging course and everyone ran well on both the boys and girls teams,” said River coach Butch Lewis.
