The Botetourt County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met in the Family Life Center of Fincastle United Methodist Church on May 20. Guest speaker Tommy Myers (pictured) presented information on his ancestor, Malcom Allen. Allen was a Revolutionary War Patriot who settled in the Eagle Rock area where he built his home and raised his family. Allen was also a leader in the community. For many years the Botetourt County DAR Chapter has paid for the upkeep of the grounds of the Allen-Carper Cemetery in Eagle Rock.

Members and guests enjoyed having Tommy Myers share his vast knowledge during his talk and afterwards he shared a myriad of photographs and documents.

As the nation is preparing to celebrate America 250, the local  chapter encourages everyone to learn more about Virginia’s history during the Revolutionary time period as well as the lives, histories, sites, stories and communities of the citizens in the Revolutionary time period.
