Virginia Garst Ferris, 92, of Fincastle, passed away peacefully from this life to her heavenly home on Wednesday, February 8, 2023.

She was born in Roanoke, April 24, 1930 to the late Willie and Elva Garst. She is also preceded in death by her Andrew Lewis High School sweetheart and husband of 65 years, Leo Ferris; brother, Harold Garst and wife Betty; brother, Wilbur Garst and wife Edna; son-in-law, Gregg Stump; grandson-in-law, Robert Cushing; sister-in-law, Phyllis Shore and husband Bob; brother-in-law, James Ferris and wife Carolyn; niece, Karen Talley and husband Rex; and nephews, Wesley and Michael Ferris.

She is survived by two daughters, Pam Stump and Carol Ferris; three grandchildren, John Stump (wife Linni), Matthew Stump (wife Meagan) and Carrie Stump; four great-grandchildren, Elliott, Amelia, Flora and Leo Stump; and special cousin “like a sister,” Doris McKinney.

Affectionately known to her family as “Ami,” she was a longtime faithful member of Wheatland Lutheran Church and devoted her life to her Lord Jesus, the “love of her life” husband Leo, her family and many beloved cats and dogs throughout the years. She will be very deeply missed.

In her youth she worked at Garst Brothers Dairy, owned and operated by her four uncles, Lee, Wiley, Miller and Marshall Garst, and was also employed by Miller and Rhoads Department Store. In the 1970s she joined First National Exchange Bank. After decades of service as a bank teller she retired from Dominion Bank.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. at Wheatland Lutheran Church, Buchanan, on Saturday, February 18. The family will receive friends at 12 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wheatland Lutheran Church, 1560 Wheatland Road, Buchanan, 24066. Online condolences may be made at www.botetourtfuneralhome.com.
