Floyd County, a fellow member of the Three Rivers District with James River, swept the Class 2 state track championships last weekend. The VHSL Class 1 and 2 meets were held at James Madison University in Harrisonburg.
The James River boys tied for 17th in the state with 15 points. Jack Beheler was second in the discus with a toss of 156’3” for River’s top performance. Ashton Orange was sixth in the shot put with a heave of 45’7″’and, on the track, Braden Jones was fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:02.19.
In the girls’ meet River scored four points for 23rd. Denver Rinehart scored in two events when she took seventh in the 200 at 27.31 and eighth in the long jump at 16’4.5”. Maddie Davison earned a point with an eighth place finish in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:30.5.
