Buchanan July 4th Parade

Del. Terry Austin and longtime Buchanan Rescue Squad volunteer Dot Carson will be the grand marshals for the annual Buchanan Firemen’s Fourth of July Parade Wednesday, July 4. The parade kicks off at 5 p.m. on Main Street, which closes at 4 p.m. so line up can begin.

The parade is at 5 p.m. and follows the traditional route from the former Groendyk building north on Main Street.

Parade winners will be announced from Center Stage on the Town Park following the parade. Winners may pick up their trophies from the Carnival Office at the entrance of the Town Park.

Fourth of July Barbeque

Slow-cooked chicken barbeque with sides and drink will be available again at the Buchanan Town Park Food Concession Stand as part of Town of Buchanan’s Independence Day celebration. Chicken will be available beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 4 until sold out.

Fireworks in Fincastle, Buchanan

There are two opportunities to see fireworks on the Fourth of July.

Fincastle

  • Fincastle started holding a Fourth of July Party in the 1990s on the playing fields at Breckinridge Elementary School, and will again have fireworks next Wednesday evening. The fireworks display will start at dark, but visitors are invited to make an evening of it with a picnic dinner, and to invite friends and neighbors. Paige Ware will be passing the hat for donations to pay for the fireworks.

Buchanan

  • The Buchanan Community Carnival has been setting off fireworks to end the Independence Day activities, and that continues for the 65th year next Wednesday on the Carnival Grounds, Lowe Street. The fireworks show starts at 10 p.m. Anyone wishing to make a donation to help cover the fireworks’ expenses can contact the Buchanan Town Hall at 254-1212.
