Buchanan invites the community to enjoy an evening by the river during a funky-blues-jam-soul-reggae-rock performance by Groova Scape this Saturday from 5-8 p.m.

Sponsored by Bank of Botetourt, the evening performance is a highlight of Pork By the James. Admission is by donation with minimum suggested donation of $5. A portion of the proceeds from admission go towards the town’s efforts to raise money for the James River High School FFA chapter’s trip to participate in the National FFA Convention in October. The chapter is sending 16 members who are competing for national awards and for the National Chapter of the Year honor.

Based in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Groova Scape has drawn a strong international following with listeners in California, Texas, North Carolina, the United Kingdom and France.

Groova Scape is known for bringing a fresh, powerful vibe to their bluesy shows which reviewrs say are packed with fun and surprises.

World-class vocalist Brittany Sparks and veteran guitarist Henry Lazenby front this four-piece band known for its original tunes. Groova Scape has a solid foundation provided drummer Matt Leonard and bass grooves provided by Scott Sutton and keyboards Paul Tressel.

One reviewer said \when Sparks turns loose those pipes audiences sit up and take notice, then howl for more.

Gates open at 5 p.m. for the performance. There will be a beer garden, carnival fries and barbeque available for sale.

For additional information, call the Buchanan Downtown Revitalization Program at 254-1212.
