John Thomas is running for Fincastle Town Council

John Lindsay Thomas of Fincastle has announced his candidacy to run for an open seat on the Fincastle Town Council in the upcoming 2020 election.

Thomas returned to Fincastle in 2017 following his retirement from the U.S. Army. He was born and raised in Botetourt County and graduated from Lord Botetourt High School. Thomas holds an Associate Degree in Public Administration from Virginia Western Community College and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Mary Baldwin University. His civilian career includes local law enforcement as well as employment as a Richmond City Magistrate. Thomas retired as a Sergeants Major with The United States Army Special Operations Command located at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Thomas is a lifelong member of the Trinity Church of the Brethren and is a life member of the VFW Post 1841 and American Legion Post 240. He is currently employed as a substitute teacher with the Craig County School system and has worked as an assistant coach with the Craig County High School football team since 2018.

His news release announcing his candidacy said he is” interested in attaining more knowledge in grant writing in an effort to enhance the town infrastructure and promises to being committed to achieving timely results, if elected.”
