James River defeated Staunton River and Parry McCluer in three sets each to improve to 4-0 in high school volleyball last week. The Knights were scheduled to host a tough Radford team in their Three Rivers District opener on Tuesday but results were too late for publication.
Last Tuesday in Moneta the Knights beat home-standing Staunton River in four sets, sweeping the season series from the Eagles. River won 25-22, 18-25, 25-13 and 25-20.
“This was a good win for us against a tough Staunton River team,” said James River coach Linsey Firebaugh. “We struggled to get going in the first two sets but once our serve receive improved and we limited our errors we were able to easily take the last two.”

Ashby Wilkes led River with 19 kills to go with 11 digs and six aces. Kinley Millman served up seven aces, Ayden Jennings had 20 assists and Kendall Childs dished out 16 assists.
Last Thursday the Knights hosted Parry McCluer and won in three, 25-9, 25-7 and 25-13. Millman had nine kills and five aces and Jennings had 14 assists as River cruised to the win.
“This was a good game to allow us to focus on being aggressive while limiting errors,” said Firebaugh. “I’m happy the girls were able to dominate this match.”
