The James River boys opened the week with a non-district home game against Christiansburg on Monday and came away with a 1-1 tie. The Class 3 Demons are members of the tough River Ridge District.

“It was an intense game start to finish,” said River coach Jared Whiting of the tie with Christiansburg. “The boys played with a lot of heart and a lot of smarts. We definitely won the mental game. Defense worked together and had an outstanding night keeping most of Christiansburg’s shots out at distance.”

Justin Hill scored River’s goal on a direct kick outside the box with a beautiful upper 90 placement. Both teams got good goalkeeping as the defenses kept the score in doubt until the final horn.

“It was an exciting game to be a part of, for sure,” said Whiting. “It shows where these guys can go this year.”

Last Friday the Knights swept the season series with Craig County by downing the Rockets 7-0 in New Castle.

The Knights are scheduled to host Glenvar in a big district rivalry game on Thursday in Springwood. Next Monday the Knights will host Auburn in a non-district doubleheader with the girls.
