The James River baseball team will play host to Rockbridge this Friday. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. following a 5 p.m. jayvee game.
The Knights split two games last week, defeating Waynesboro on the road but losing at home to Northside. The split, along with a rained-out game at Rockbridge Friday, gave the Knights a 1-3 record heading into spring break.
At Waynesboro, River held on for a 6-4 win. Heath Andrews pitched the first six innings and allowed just one hit and one run, striking out 14 in a dominating performance. The Knights took a 6-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh but Andrews came out after the sixth and the Little Giants rallied for three runs, one earned, in the bottom of the seventh against Logan Joyce. Zeal Hammons came out of the pen to pick up the save, getting strikeouts for all three outs around two walks.
Colin Cook had two doubles to lead the Knights and swiped three bases among eight for the game for River. Lead-off man Hunter Mays scored three runs.
A day later the Knights hosted Northside and dropped a 9-4 decision. Taylor Wilson pitched four and a third innings and took the loss. Andrews had two hits and two runs batted in.
Next week the Knights will return the trip to Northside on Tuesday.
