The Lord Botetourt girls soccer team opened the Class 3 state soccer tournament at Fluvanna County High School on Tuesday of this week. The Flying Flucos were the host team for the quarterfinal game, with the winner advancing to the state semifinal round.

Class 3 and 4 state semifinal and final games in boys and girls soccer, softball and baseball are all being held at Spotsylvania County sites as part of a “Spring Jubilee” this year. Semifinals are Friday and championship games are Saturday.

LB missed out on a chance to host a quarterfinal game when the Cavaliers were upset by Hidden Valley in Daleville last Friday, 2-0. The Cavaliers had plenty of opportunities but the ball would just not find the net as seventh seeded Hidden Valley stunned top-seeded LB just two days after upsetting third seeded William Byrd in the semifinal round, 3-0.

The Cavaliers played host to Christiansburg in their semifinal game and took a 4-1 win. Ally Spangler had a three-goal hat trick to lead the Cavaliers while Emma Rice had a goal and an assist. Kaleigh Horan and Allison Kirby also had assists.

The Cavaliers took an 18-3 record to Fluvanna County Tuesday.
