The Lord Botetourt boys tennis team saw their season come to an end with a 5-1 loss to Wilson Memorial in the state quarterfinal round in Fishersville Friday. Botetourt’s win came at number six singles as Jackson Wolfe took a 6-2, 6-2 win.

Botetourt’s doubles team was eliminated from post-season play in the Region 3D semifinals last week. The team of Tyler Meade and Conner Tilley won their quarterfinal match, 6-0, 6-0, over the Staunton River team. Botetourt then lost to the Hidden Valley team in a tight semifinal match after winning the first set by a tie-breaker. The Titan duo won 6-7, 6-0, 6-4.

“Although it’s not the result we wanted, we have a lot to hang our hat on at the end of the day,” said coach Blake Johnson. “We had a great season and I thank all of the athletes and their parents for making it unforgettable. The guys played hard until the last point.”
