LB girls win C-31 track meet, boys 2nd; 35 make regional

Petry, Shelton, Cornett take conference honors

The Lord Botetourt track team will have 35 athletes competing in the Region 3A West meet on Thursday at Fluvanna High School. The Cavaliers advanced after a good day at Rockbridge High Saturday in the Conference 31 meet.

The Botetourt girls won the Conference 31 meet and Reyna Petry was named the Female Runner of the Meet. The boys finished second, just six and a half points behind Staunton River, and coach Christopher Caldwell was named the boys Coach of the Year. In addition, LB’s Brittany Cornett was the Co-Female Coach of the Year with Jennifer Showalter of Rockbridge.

For the girls, Petry won the 100 and 300 hurdles and was second in the 200 and long jump. Brooklyn Shelton won the 400 and Emma Coman won the long jump. Other seconds went to Libby Keely in the 3200, Lexi Haston in both hurdle races and Erin Kline in the high jump.

Botetourt won the 4×400 relay with Shelton, Halla Roberts, Greyse Palme and Kael Sebestin. The Cavs were second in the 4×800 and third in the 4×100.

For the boys, JT Turner threw a personal record in shot put, winning the event and qualifying for the state meet. Other firsts for LB were Max Burke in the 300 hurdles, long jump and high jump and Adrian Taylor in the 100.

Seconds from LB went to Taylor in the 200, Connor Hayes in the 800, Bryton Dalglish in the 1600 and 3200, Jake McNutt in the discus and Burke in the 110 hurdles.

Botetourt’s 4×800 relay team of Maxwell Klimczak, Cameron Turney, Austin Sarver and Hayes took first. The 4×100 team was second.
