Lord Botetourt graduate Zack Kelly, a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, pitched in three Salem Carolina League games against the Carolina Mudcats last week in a rehab assignment after suffering an arm injury in the spring. Zack started the game on Tuesday of last week, then pitched in the second inning on Friday at Salem Memorial Ballpark. On Sunday he came in to start the third inning and struck out two Carolina batters around a ground out to short before the game was cancelled due to rain. Salem’s season is now over but Kelly is planning to make a couple more appearances in the Red Sox system as he works his way back to Boston. Here, he pitches on Tuesday (white jersey), and Sunday (red jersey), then tips his hat to the Sox fans who turned out to support the local product after his three-up, three-down stint on Sunday afternoon.
