The Lord Botetourt girls are hoping to ride the momentum of two big wins into today’s softball game with Cave Spring. The Cavaliers will host the Knights in a non-district game on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
LB swept two Blue Ridge District games last week. They beat Staunton River in Moneta, then got a big win at home over William Byrd on Friday.
“We had a fantastic week,” said coach Megan Cook. “I am so proud of our team. They have such heart and fight.”
On Tuesday the Cavaliers beat Staunton River, 3-1. Olivia Pierce had a strong game in the circle as she pitched a two-hitter and struck out 11. Callie Shuler led the team in the middle of the lineup, going two-for-four on the day and batting in two runs. Bailey Hutchins and Callie Kidd also had two hits.
On Friday at home the Cavalier bats were on fire in a 15-5 six-inning slaughter rule win over Byrd. Pierce earned her second win of the week, this time allowing no hits while fanning nine. Phoenix Humphries pitched in relief as the Cavaliers dominated a team that came to Daleville riding a seven-game winning streak.
Offensively, Callie Kidd was four-for-four with a first inning home run. The Cavs had 15 hits as a team including four more hits by Hutchins, who knocked in four runs. Humphries collected two hits.
With the two wins the Cavaliers improved to 4-4 on the season and 2-1 in the district. LB will be at Northside Friday, then play James River Monday at the Greenfield Recreation Complex.
