Tyler Lester of James River qualified for the state Group 2A golf tournament with a two-over-par 75 in last week’s Region 2C tournament at Ashley Plantation. The Knights finished third as a team.

Lester was one of five individuals to advance. Appomattox County earned a spot in the state as a team and had the individual medalist in Jillian Drinkard.

Radford was second as a team and River was third, just three strokes behind the Bobcats with a team score of 328. Lester led the Knights and was third overall among 66 golfers with his round. Also scoring for the Knights were Mitchell Boone at 82, Tyler Brown at 85 and Jack Bailey at 86.

The 2A state tournament is Monday and Tuesday of next week at Heritage Oaks in Harrisonburg.
