Daleville-Fincastle Lions Club members Mary Sue McCormack and Carole Smith visited Healing Strides on Tuesday, Aug. 27. It is an Equine Assisted Activity and Therapy Program which includes Therapeutic Riding, Equine Assisted Learning (EAL), Equine Assisted Psychotherapy EAP, Hippotherapy, and several other programs related to equine therapies. It is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization established in 1991 and is located on 22 acres just north of Boones Mill with two large pastures, three paddocks, a round pen, a large enclosed arena, and an outdoor arena. It has a professional staff, certified instructors, trained volunteers, and a herd of 20+ horses.
In following with the Lions’ motto, “We Serve,” a donation was presented to the organization. One hundred percent of all money raised through fundraising activities by Lions is given back to the community. Lions focus on five primary areas: Development of community environments that inspire and support healthy lifestyles, helping families who experience pediatric cancer and supporting research, helping to educate about diabetes, assisting those with vision and hearing issues and working to help end hunger — locally, nationally and internationally.
