The Lord Botetourt boys basketball team is the third seed in this week’s Region 3D basketball tournament. The Cavaliers opened with a home game against Carroll County on Tuesday, but results were too late for publication.

Only one team advances out of the regional this year, so every game is an elimination game in the regional. If the Cavaliers won Tuesday they’ll play the winner of Northside and William Byrd next in the semifinal round on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Botetourt comes into the tournament at 9-3. The Cavaliers lost twice to undefeated Radford and once to William Fleming in the Cavaliers’ regular season final last week in Daleville. Botetourt trailed by just two at the half in a 73-65 loss.

“We played a solid game against a really good opponent,” said coach Andrew Hart. “We had great contributions from a lot of different players, including sophomore Tyler Meade, who scored in double digits for the third game in a row.”

Conner Tilley led LB with 17 points while Meade and Owen Prince had 15 each and Kyle Arnholt had 10. Tilley also had six rebounds and Meade had four assists.

“It was one of those games where both teams did a lot of things well and the difference was which shots fell and which shots didn’t,” said Hart. “William Fleming is a tough matchup for us, but hopefully it will help us make a run in the postseason.”
