The Lord Botetourt boys were set to open play in the Virginia High School League Class 3 state soccer tournament as the paper went to press this week. The Cavaliers were in Lynchburg Tuesday to take on Liberty Christian Academy in a state quarterfinal game.
Tuesday’s four quarterfinal winners advance to the state semifinals at Emory & Henry University’s Self Stadium on Friday. The LB-LCA winner will play the winner of a game between Brentsville District and New Kent at 3 p.m. The state championship is at Emory & Henry on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
The LB boys earned the right to play in the state tournament with a 5-4 win over Magna Vista in the Region 3D semifinal on June 1. That put them in the final, where they fell to Christiansburg at Christiansburg High School last Thursday, 6-0. With that result Christiansburg got to host a state quarterfinal on Tuesday of this week while LB had to go on the road to Lynchburg.
