Bernice Jane Dunbar McConnell, 83, of Buchanan, passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Wayne McConnell; parents, Chan and Daisy Dunbar; brothers, Larry, Carl, Hubert, Jack, Cline, Dennis and David Dunbar; and sisters, Sylvia Wilson and Claudine Jacques.
She enjoyed gardening and canning; making special recipes for her family. Her grandbabies were her life. Anything going on with those kids, she was there.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Greg Childress; grandson, Tyler Childress and wife, Renee; great-grandchildren, Jeania and River; brother, Chan Dunbar, Jr.; sister, Ruby Lemon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 12-1 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026 in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be private.
