Melvina H. “Bunny” Obenshain, 96, of Botetourt County, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025, at Cardinal Senior Living.
Born to the late Wyndom “Bill” and Jane Hughes, Bunny was a loving and devoted wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and cherished friend to many. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Jonathan K. Obenshain; her brother, Ronald C. Hughes; and her sister, Jean H. Moretz.
Bunny is lovingly remembered by her brother-in-law, Roger Moretz; nieces, Sherry (Jeff) Childress, Judi (Doug) Carpenter, and Gail (Michael) Biggs; her nephew, Ronnie (Pam) Hughes; and a host of great-nieces and nephews. Though she never had children of her own, Bunny cherished her family deeply and loved each of them as if they were her own.
A nurse by profession, Bunny dedicated her life to caring for others. She was a faithful member of Faith Alliance Church in Roanoke and found joy in simple pleasures, spending time with loved ones, knitting, and visiting the beach.
The family is deeply grateful to the compassionate home caregivers who supported Bunny in her later years, as well as the dedicated teams at Gentle Shepherd Hospice and Affinity Care of Virginia for their exceptional care and kindness.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025, at Oakey’s North Chapel. Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, at Oakey’s North Chapel with burial to follow in Mill Creek Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.Oakeys.com, 540-362-1237.
