James River took first, second and fourth place in the 55-meter dash at the Region 2C indoor track meet last Sunday. The meet was held at the Kerr-Cregger Indoor Fieldhouse at Roanoke College in Salem.
River came close to sweeping the girls’ 55-meter dash. Kaia Binns won the race in 7.61, Denver Rinehart was second in 7.72 and freshman Mirai Burton was fourth in 7.90, just missing qualifying for the state meet as the top three in each event advance.
Burton did advance in the 300, finishing third with a time of 45.38, and Rinehart was seventh in that race. Maddie Davidson was fifth in the 500 and the team of Rinehart, Burton, Davidson and Vivian Vernon took second in the 4×200 relay at 1:54.8.
River also scored points in the girls’ shot put. Brianna Petty was sixth and Janiya Falls was seventh.
Two River boys advanced to the state meet with second place finishes. Gavin Binns was second in the 55 dash at 6.68 and Jayden Alston was second in the shot put.
The state Class 2 meet will be at Liberty University on March 4 and 5.
