The Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office welcomed community members, friends, and family joining the officers in running with Special Olympian Josh Leonard and the “Flame of Hope” raising awareness and funds for Special Olympics Virginia athletes. The group ran on Saturday morning from the Botetourt Family YMCA parking lot, down Route 220 to Bellecino’s Pizza, and back to the YMCA.

“We wanted this to be a community event and really appreciate the amount of people that have come out to run with us,” Botetourt County Sheriff Matt Ward stated before the run.

After the group finished the two-mile run/walk together, they enjoyed a parking lot celebration at the Botetourt YMCA with grilled hot dogs, chips, and drinks.
