Hidden Valley scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Lord Botetourt in softball Monday in a game played at Hidden Valley.
The Cavaliers trailed 5-1 after four innings but scored one run in the fifth and four in the top of the sixth to take a 6-5 lead. However, the host team plated six runs in the bottom of the inning to win going away.
Grace Thomas pitched four innings for LB and Bry Orange pitched two. Of the 11 runs Hidden Valley scored only one was earned as the Cavaliers committed six errors in the game.
Offensively, Jackson Kemper had two hits for LB and Gracie Sargent drove in a pair. Autumn Russell and Thomas had doubles.
With the loss LB fell to 4-9 overall. Botetourt was 2-3 in Blue Ridge District games prior to a trip to Northside on Tuesday of this week. The Cavs split two BRD games last week.
Last Tuesday, April 25, the Cavs dropped a 9-8 decision to Staunton River in Daleville. Hadley Evans had three hits.
On Thursday the Cavaliers hosted William Byrd and took a 2-1 win, holding Byrd to just two hits. Russell’s fourth inning homer proved to be the winning run.
The Cavaliers are scheduled to host William Fleming Friday.
