Track teams are at William Byrd Saturday

James River’s Ryder Ward placed 4th in the long jump with a distance of 20-7.75 at the Blacksburg Invitational.
James River’s Kendall Childs placed 25th in the 100 m dash at the Blacksburg Invitational, and 9th in the long jump.

The James River and Lord Botetourt track teams will be in Vinton Saturday for the William Byrd Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. and run for most of the day.

Both schools competed in meets last Saturday with the Knights in Blacksburg and LB at Northside. James River had some state qualifying performances as Ryder Ward won the triple jump and was fourth in long jump, state qualifying in both. Jack Beheler won the discus and Ashton Orange took third, with both state qualifying.

For the girls, Denver Rinehart was third in both the 100 and 200 and state qualified in both. The 4×100 team of Rinehart, Maddie Davidson, Mirai Burton and Kendall Childs was runner-up.

Lord Botetourt’s Karleigh Brown won the pole vault at Northside and Morgan Wilmer was second in the 100 dash. Brooke Boone was third in the 200, Analise Buyalos was third in the 400 and Botetourt won the 4×100 relay.

For the boys, Eric Duncan and Ethan Thorne continued to rule the distances as Eric won the 800 and Ethan won the 1,600. Joel Butler took third in the pole vault.
