The Lord Botetourt and James River track teams are scheduled to compete in the “Terrier Team Challenge” track meet at William Byrd High School in Vinton Saturday. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

James River competed in a meet at Hidden Valley last Saturday in a meet that included close to 20 teams. The River girls finished fifth and the boys were eighth as Blacksburg won both the boys’  and girls’ championships.

Emma Francis won two first places for the River girls, winning both the shot put and discus. Emma state qualified in the discus so now she’s state qualified in both throwing events.

Navaeh Van Buren also had a good day for River, placing in three field events. Navaeh was second in the discus, third in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump. Kaia Binns was fifth in the 200, and Emma Bobbit and Ella Hutchens were fifth and sixth in the shot.

For the boys, Conner Church was fourth in the 100 and sixth in the high jump. Brian Moran was fifth in three events, the long, triple and high jumps, and he ran in the sixth place 4×100 relay with Church, Gavin Binns and Walker Wilson. George Toliver took sixth in the shot put.
