The Historic Greenfield Advisory Council (GPAC) met on Tuesday in a virtual meeting as they prepare to update their bylaws and plans for the future restoration of the Greenfield plantation in Daleville.
The Council provides the county’s government with a body of qualified volunteers to support and advise the county about the preservation, restoration, and interpretation of the buildings and grounds of the Greenfield historical preservation area.
The restoration project began as early as 2015. Over the past few years, the Council worked to improve the remaining structures of the plantation which now neighbors the Greenfield Industrial Park.
In the summer of 2016, Botetourt County supervisors broke ground on the project. The former slave quarters and old kitchen were relocated about a half-mile from their original location within the Preservation Area.
The Council have plans to develop more of a historic “trail” around the relocated buildings.
Last week, GPAC held a brief virtual meeting as they prepared the for their meeting yesterday. New Assistant County Administrator Jon Lanford joined the Council as they discussed the consideration of new updated bylaws and leadership succession.
While there isn’t new information at the time of this publication, more news regarding the project will be provided in next week’s edition.
