On Saturday, September 27, folks from local surroundings and farther away will again gather in Historic Fincastle to enjoy a day of art, crafts, food, and wonderful special attractions at the annual Fincastle Festival. So what can visitors expect? Well, aside from funnel cakes and cotton candy – here are some ideas!

Local artists will again be celebrated as they present their latest creations. There will be new crafters joining the Festival with items created from fabrics, various metals, wood and other mediums. Christmas will be here before we know it…so prepare to “shop until you drop!”

Need a break from all that shopping? Take time to visit the beautiful handmade quilts displayed in the old Baptist Church on Main Street, and make sure to stop by the Botetourt History Museum also on Main. After grabbing a bite to eat, walk down Main Street toward Rt. 220, and visit the Wysong Blacksmith Shop where Patrick Mattingly will be demonstrating the craft of smithing while talking about the craft and its history.

Have some children along? After visiting the Blacksmith Shop, walk down into Wysong Park and pet some “little critters” and take a pony ride or two. Then you can mosey on up the hill and stroll down Roanoke Street for more shopping, some fresh-made lemonade and/or some kettle corn.

Next stop, the Revolutionary War Interpreters’ 18th Century Encampment. If you didn’t stop for a visit as you first came into town, now is the time to step back in time and see and learn about life at the time of the Revolutionary War. Observe the weapons, tools, and clothing of the era, and talk with the folks about life back then.

Now that you’ve learned a little about life during the Revolution, continue on down Roanoke Street to the traveling history museum celebrating the 250 years of Virginia. Also make sure to visit the Fire Department folks and “touch a truck” or two. You might also want to visit the library across the street there for some great finds and buys in books. It is the annual book sale there.

After visiting all of these amazing spaces and people, we hope you will have had a wonderful day!
