The high school cross country season will officially take the gun this week with both James River and Lord Botetourt scheduled to run in big meets.

The Knights will run on Thursday in a meet at the Monogram Foods Smith River Sports Complex in Axton, Va. The meet is hosted by Bassett and the Knights will have a full team in both the boys and girls races.

Lord Botetourt will open Saturday at Northside High School. There will be five races with the middle school girls starting at 8:45 a.m. with a 3K, followed by a 3K for the middle school boys at 9:30 a.m.

The girls varsity race is a 5K, and it’s scheduled to go off at 10:15 a.m. with the boys 5K to follow at approximately 10:45 a.m. The last race of the day is a junior varsity 5K for both boys and girls at 11:30 a.m.

Both the James River and Lord Botetourt teams will be participating in the big “Knights Invitational” at Green Hill Park in West Roanoke County on September 9.
