The James River girls shot a team score of 310 to finish in second place in a Three Rivers District golf match at the Hanging Rock Golf Course in Roanoke County last week.

“The team played fantastic,” said River coach Donna Cox. “A team score of 310, the lowest in several years!”

River was only four strokes behind winner Floyd, who shot 306 and is the season leader. Radford was third at 329 followed by Glenvar at 341, Patrick County at 345, Carroll County at 347 and Alleghany at 352.

Peyton Mason of Floyd was the individual medalist with a 73, followed by Lucas Beeler of Radford at 74. River’s Mason Gilliland was just two strokes off the best of the day when he recorded a 75 and teammate Landon Bolling followed with a 76. Also scoring for the Knights were Haden Parker at 79 and Dylan Hicks at 80, giving River four scores of 80 or better.

Monday’s match scheduled for the Olde Mill course was postponed by rain and will now be played on Tuesday, September 5, at 2 p.m.
